Online Final Exams

All UTS College exams will be online for the foreseeable future.

You can sit your exam on your own computer, using special software. If you’re a Diploma student, you can sit your exam in a space that you choose. Choose a quiet space without distractions or other people present. If you’re an Academic English student, you’ll do your exam on your computer, but the exam will be conducted in a classroom on campus.

You’ll also need a webcam and a microphone, and we’ll ask you to complete an identity and ‘environment’ check, using your mobile phone.

What you need to do before an exam

It’s your responsibility to be prepared for your exams, which includes knowing the time and date.

If you’re studying a diploma or graduate certificate, make sure you read your exam timetable carefully. Misreading or misunderstanding your exam timetable isn’t accepted as a reason not to attend an exam, nor is it grounds to apply for a special exam. After you’ve sat or commenced your final exam, you’ll no longer be eligible for a special exam.

Make sure you read the instructions and FAQs. The instructions will explain how to best prepare for your online exam and ensure you have the correct technology. This will avoid any unnecessary problems or delays with your exam.

This video will answer more questions about your online exams.

Exam timetable and important dates

If you’re an academic student (diploma or graduate certificate), your exam timetable will be released during your semester. If you’re an English Language student, you’ll complete your exam on campus in Week 10 of your block.

You’ll find exam dates and timetable in the academic calendar.

When to arrive and identity check for online exams

At least 30 minutes before the scheduled start time, you need to attend a pre-exam check via Zoom Meeting. Lateness for an online exam isn’t an excuse for extra time. If you arrive more than 45 minutes late, you won’t be permitted to enter the final exam.

Please bring photo ID, such as your passport, driver’s license, proof of age, or National Card. You must show your student ID card to enter the online exam. You won’t be allowed to sit an exam if your student card isn’t ‘in date’ and signed. If you need to replace or update your card, it’s important to contact the Student Centre before your exam.

What to do if you can’t attend an exam or submit an assessment

If you can’t attend your final exam or submit an assessment, please speak to your teacher as soon as possible. You may be eligible for Special Consideration or a Special Exam.

When and where are results released?

Results will be available on the semester results publication date

Semester and assessment results are available via eStudent. Please make sure your account is up to date. If you have trouble logging in, contact ITDS Service Desk Portal.

What to do if your results are blocked

Your results will be blocked if you have any outstanding fees. These can include tuition, Homestay, library or overdue book fees. Please pay all outstanding fees and take the receipt to the Student Centre.

Who do I talk to if I fail?

If you fail a subject, the Student Success Advisers can talk to you about your options. If you fail an assessment or are struggling to meet academic progress expectations, you’ll be placed on academic caution and contacted by Student Success Advisers who will offer additional support.

If you’re a diploma student and fail one final subject required for your diploma, you may be eligible for a final stage supplementary exam

Request a review of your result

You may request a review of your result if you believe there have been procedural or factual errors in the calculation of your result. Your Academic/Academic English Coordinator will review your request.

If either error has happened, you may lodge a request for a review by following these steps:

  • Complete the Request a Review of a Result form within five (5) working days of receiving your result, or it won’t be accepted. You can attach any additional documents to support your request.

  • Email the completed form to your Academic/Academic English Coordinator.

  • Attend your classes or exams, as appropriate.

You’ll receive a written response in your UTS student email account no later than five (5) working days from the day your request was lodged.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact exams@utscollege.edu.au

It’s important to note that dissatisfaction with grades isn’t sufficient grounds for a review. Make sure you read the guidelines and FAQs below first.

Frequently asked questions

Mark omission / Missing assessment results. If you submitted an assessment item or completed an exam but the marks do not appear on your eStudent record, and you have contacted the teacher, but it still has not been corrected, you have the right to lodge a request for a review. If you have copies of assessments with the teacher’s feedback and grade written on them, you should photocopy these and submit them with your request for a review form.

Incorrect assessment results recorded. If you submitted an assessment item or completed an exam but the marks on your eStudent record are different from the marks your teacher told you, and you have contacted your teacher, but it still has not been corrected, you have the right to request a review. If you have copies of assessments with your teacher’s feedback and grade written on them, you should photocopy these and submit them with your request for a review form.

You were not notified of the assignment task or question within a reasonable period before the due date. In general, you will be informed of assignment tasks in the subject outline in week 1 of the program. More detailed information about the assessment will be provided during the semester. Usually, you will have all information required to complete major assignments (i.e. worth 20% or more) 2 weeks prior to the due date of that assignment. If this period of notification was not given, you have the right to request a review on procedural grounds.

Diploma or Graduate Certificate students:

  • If you have qualified for a Final Stage Supplementary Exam and would like to request a review of results, you must still sit for the exam as scheduled.

  • If you have failed and lodged a request, you must re-enrol in the same subject while waiting for the result. If the review determines that a grade of pass is awarded, you can withdraw from the subject and add another one (in accordance with the enrolment procedure and schedule). Failure to do so may cause problems with your academic record.

UTS Foundation Studies students:

Continue with your studies and attend classes as per your timetable.

No. UTS College has rigorous quality mechanisms and a rigorous marking moderation process. Tutors, Subject Coordinators and Program Managers review results and where there are anomalies in a student’s grades, these are routinely reviewed. Failed exams are double-marked. The Subject Coordinators may provide feedback on areas for improvement but a remark of an assessment task will not be performed at this stage.

There are no marks for attendance. Marks are awarded for assessable (measurable) tasks.

Teachers, Coordinators and Program Managers review results and where there are anomalies in a student’s grades, these are routinely reviewed.

How to appeal against the review of a result decision

After you have lodged a request for a review of a result, your Academic/Academic English Coordinator will reply to you with their decision.

If you do not agree with the Coordinator’s decision, you have the right to submit an appeal against that decision.

The steps to follow for an appeal of a decision:

  • Email the Student Complaints Resolution Office (SCRO) at: scro@utscollege.edu.au within five (5) working days of receiving your Coordinator’s decision.

  • Attend your classes or exams, as appropriate.

You’ll receive a written response in your UTS student email account no later than five (5) working days from the day your appeal was lodged.

Please note: The response that you receive from your Coordinator is final and closes your appeal.
