It’s easy to get to UTS College, whether you’re on public transport, in your car, or on your bike. If you’re looking to explore the world outside campus, getting around Sydney is easier than you think.

Public transport

Sydney’s public transport is fast, reliable, and inexpensive. It’s also a lot better for the environment than driving a car.

Depending on where you’re travelling from, you might use one or more transport options.

Here are some apps and online navigation tools to help you find your way:

To use public transport, you need an Opal card or any eligible credit or debit card (including those linked to your phone wallet). Tapping on and taping off using a credit or debit card is the same as using an adult Opal card. Just make sure you use the same card to tap on and off!

International students over 16 need to use an adult Opal card. You can buy these from most convenience stores and newsagents.

Domestic students studying fulltime (at least 20 hours per week face-to-face) can apply online for a concession card.

How to apply for a concession Opal card

  • Log in to the UTS College eStudent portal and give your consent.

UTS College will send you an email to confirm your eligibility for transport concessions, and you can then apply for your concession Opal card.

  • Visit opal.com.au or call 13 67 25 (13 OPAL) 24 hours, 7-days a week to complete your application.

You can also apply at the UTS College Student Centre.

Your Concession Opal card will be mailed to you within 5–7 working days.

  • Follow the enclosed instructions to activate your card.
  • Remember to carry either your valid student ID card or a Transport Concession Entitlement card whenever you’re on public transport. Without a card, you may be fined!

Train

UTS College is a 10-minute walk from Central Station, the main train station in the centre of Sydney. It’s one of the largest railway stations in Australia, and all train lines travel through it.

Central Station

Central Station is between Railway Square; Pitt Street; Eddy Avenue; Chalmers Street and Haymarket. It connects you with metropolitan trains, buses, interstate coaches, and the light rail.

If you need to combine train and other types of travel, this station connects with the Railway Square bus interchange, and is also near light rail stops and car/taxi pick-up areas.

Buses

Sydney buses run regularly and will take you almost anywhere you need to go. There are plenty of public bus stops around the UTS College campus. It’s best to plan ahead using transportnsw.info, or an app like TripView, Google Maps, Apple Maps or Citymapper.

Driving

Sydney’s roads are some of the busiest in Australia, and it is easy to get stuck in traffic, especially in peak-hour. To avoid being late for class, we encourage you to take public transport or ride to campus.

If driving is your best option, please always check your navigation system or app to avoid heavy traffic.
