Where is my exam?

English language students

Examinations are held online, unless your teacher tells you otherwise. Final examinations are held on Monday and/or Wednesday of Week 5 of each term. You will be notified of the exact schedule of examinations during the term. Find out more information about English language exams.

UTS Foundation Studies students

UTS Foundation Studies students do not sit exams. Grades are based on continuous assessment throughout the program. Find out more information about UTS Foundation Studies exams.

Diploma students

General dates for tests, quizzes, final exams, result publication, appeals and final stage supplementary exams are set ahead of time. You will be emailed your exam timetable and details of your online exams in advance of your examination period. Find out more information about diploma exams.

What do I do if I am sick when an assignment is due?

If you are unwell when an assignment or assessment is due, speak to your teacher in the first instance. You may be able to apply for Special Consideration.

Who do I talk to if I have failed?

If you fail a subject, contact the Study Success Advisers who can talk to you about your options. Students who are struggling to meet academic progress expectations will be placed on Academic Caution and will be contacted by Study Success Advisers who will offer additional support.

If you are a diploma student and fail one final subject that is required for you to get your diploma, you may be eligible for a Final Stage Supplementary Exam.

Appeals process

You may lodge a written appeal if you believe there have been procedural or factual errors in the calculation of your final results. Your subject coordinator, tutor or program manager will review the appeal and a written response will be sent to your UTS student email account no later than 10 working days from the day the appeal was lodged.

Please note: Dissatisfaction with grades alone does not constitute grounds for an appeal. Make sure you read the guidelines below before you lodge an appeal.

Frequently asked questions

Mark omission / Missing assessment results. If you submitted an assessment item or completed an exam but the marks do not appear on your eStudent record, and you have contacted the tutor but it still has not been corrected, you have the right to lodge an appeal. If you have copies of assessments with the tutor’s feedback and grade written on them, you should photocopy these and submit them with your appeal form.

Incorrect assessment results recorded. If you submitted an assessment item or completed an exam but the marks on your eStudent record are different from the marks the tutor told you, and you have contacted the tutor but it still has not been corrected, you have the right to lodge an appeal. If you have copies of assessments with the tutor’s feedback and grade written on them, you should photocopy these and submit them with your appeal form.

Students were not notified of the assignment task or question within a reasonable period before the due date. In general, you will be informed of assignment tasks in the subject outline in week 1 of the program. More detailed information about the assessment will be provided during the semester. Usually, you will have all information required to complete major assignments (i.e. worth 20% or more) 2 weeks prior to the due date of that assignment. If this period of notification was not given, you have the right to appeal on procedural grounds.

Diploma students:

  • If you have qualified for Final Stage Supplementary Exam and would like to appeal, you must still sit for the exam as scheduled.
  • If you have failed and lodged an appeal, you must re-enrol in the same subject while waiting for the result. If the appeal is successful and a grade of pass is awarded, you can withdraw from the subject and add another one (in accordance with the enrolment procedure and schedule). Failure to do so may cause problems with your academic record.

UTS Foundation Studies students:

Continue with your studies and attend classes as per your timetable.

No. UTS College has rigorous quality mechanisms and a rigorous marking moderation process. Tutors, Subject Coordinators and Program Managers review results and where there are anomalies in a student’s grades, these are routinely reviewed. Failed exams are double-marked. The Subject Coordinators may provide feedback on areas for improvement but a remark of an assessment task will not be performed at this stage.

There are no marks for attendance. Marks are awarded for assessable (measurable) tasks.

Tutors, Subject Coordinators and Program Managers review results and where there are anomalies in a student’s grades, these are routinely reviewed.

How to lodge an appeal for a grading decision

If you think you have have satisfied the requirements for an appeal, you may lodge an appeal by following these procedures. Make sure that you take note of the last day to lodge an appeal. Forms that are submitted late will not be accepted. Please view the last day to lodge an appeal in the 'Key dates for exams' below.

If you would like to appeal a grading decision you should:

  • Download the appeal form and submit by email to appeals@insearch.edu.au. Additional documents may be attached to support your appeal. A confirmation email will be sent once your appeal form is received by Student Administration.
  • Attend your classes or exams as appropriate. You will be advised of the appeal results via email.

When advised of a non-academic administrative decision you will be provided with details of how to make an appeal should you be dissatisfied with that decision.

When will results be released?

English language students

Your teacher will provide your examination results on Thursday of Week 5. Assessment Reports will be distributed in class on Friday of Week 5. If Friday of Week 5 is a non-teaching day, Assessment Reports will be distributed on Thursday of Week 5.

UTS Foundation Studies and diploma students

Your results will be available on the Semester Results Publication Date.

Semester and assessment results are available via eStudent. Make sure your account is up to date. If you are having trouble logging in, contact ITDS Service Desk Portal. If you suspect that the results displayed are incorrect, advise a teacher immediately.

Where can I get a copy of my transcript?

A Transcript is an official document containing the subjects you have completed and your grades and overall Grade Point Average (GPA). You can request a transcript by submitting an Application for Academic Record by email to transcripts@insearch.edu.au.
