The UTS College campus is located within the UTS precinct in Sydney’s vibrant central business district.

Pre-requisites

Required Knowledge for the UTS College Diploma of Engineering.

The UTS College Diploma of Engineering accelerated (2 semester) and standard (3 semester) programs are offered to students who meet academic entry requirements and have successfully completed Year 12 subjects in Mathematics and Physics.

Students who do not meet the pre-requisites may be considered for the extended program (4 semesters). The extended program includes three additional enabling subjects to ensure students have the core fundamentals before progressing onto more advanced subjects.

Applicants with recent secondary education (within the past two years)

HSC in Australia

As a Year 12 student completing HSC anywhere in Australia, you can apply to us directly.

We do not use the Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking (ATAR) for admission to our courses. Instead, we use the average mark from the HSC results, calculated from your results in English plus the 3 best board developed courses (HSC subjects).

If you completed your HSC in Queensland before 2020, assessment is based on your Overall Position (OP). From 2020 onwards, your assessment is based on your HSC average.

Interstate HSC results are converted to NSW grades for assessment.

International Baccalaureate is assessed based on your final Aggregate (forecast results accepted if official results are pending release).

If you have completed secondary education after your HSC, please provide us with all available qualification of your current and past study for assessment.

The NSW HSC average grade, IB aggregate and Queensland OP requirements for your preferred course can be found in our Academic Entry Requirements.

Overseas

If you are an Australian citizen or a permanent resident who has completed high school education overseas, you may be eligible to use your results to study a diploma at UTS College. In some cases, additional English requirements may apply. Please refer to our Academic and English Entry Requirements, and our experienced staff are here to support you with any questions.

Finished secondary education more than two years ago

If you have completed secondary education more than two years ago, you can apply to us directly. Ensure that you provide us with all available qualification of your current and past study for assessment.

Applicants with higher education study

If you have completed a higher education program with another provider, or have commenced a bachelor’s degree, you may be able to use that qualification to apply for an UTS College diploma course. You will need to provide your HSC results, up-to-date Higher Education transcript, and final qualification if available, at time of application.

Subjects completed in your previous study that are comparable to subjects of your chosen UTS College diploma program may be used as credit towards your diploma, reducing both cost and possibly length of study. Applications for Recognition of Prior Learning can be made at time of application. Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study

If you have completed a diploma level qualification that is recognised by the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), it may be used as a basis for admission into one of our diploma programs. Please provide us with your transcript and diploma at the time of application.

Subjects completed in your previous study that are comparable to subjects of your chosen UTS College diploma program may be used as credit towards your diploma, reducing both cost and possibly length of study. Applications for Recognition of Prior Learning can be made at time of application. Applicants with work and life experience

Work and life experience are not criteria of our assessment.

At UTS College, all courses are taught in English, relying on different levels of proficiency.

If English is not your first language, you may also need to satisfy the English language requirements for your preferred course. UTS College offers high quality Academic English courses to enable you meet these requirements. Learning English here is a life-changing experience, and our programs can help improve your ability to communicate in English and gain the skills to succeed in your academic study.

How to apply

The quickest and easiest way to submit your diploma application is via our online Student Portal.

Register first to create your account, then enter the relevant information following the prompts, attach relevant documents and submit your application.

The portal allows you to access your offer letter, track and manage your application all the way through to acceptance, download documents and communicate with our helpful staff.

We aim to get back to you within two to three business days after you lodge your online application.

If you are having problems or need help submitting your application online, you can contact us, we are open Monday to Friday (9am – 5pm) except Public Holidays.

Process

There is no application fee for Domestic students to apply for a course at UTS College.

The ‘Student Application Portal’ can be accessed from our Domestic student applications webpage, along with other valuable information about supporting documents that may be required, accepting your offer, applying for FEE-HELP, Refund- and Privacy policies and much more.

If you submit your application online, by email or mail, all supporting documents must be certified.

Applications for credit of prior learning can be lodged at the same time as submitting your application for entry into UTS College. However, applications for exemptions with all necessary documentation can be made up until the end of week one of the first semester of study at UTS College. A decision will be made within five business days of receiving a completed application. Please refer to our Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and Recognition of Prior Learning Procedure for additional information or contact us to find out more.

Enrolment

Accepting your offer

Once you have received an offer, we invite you to accept that offer so you can get started on your higher education journey.

UTS College uses the term ‘Conditional’ in lieu of ‘Provisional’.

Conditional Offer

Conditional offers are issued when additional information or documents are needed to finalize assessment. Conditional offers cannot be accepted.

Conditional – Proceed to Accept

Conditional – Proceed to Accept offers are issued where outstanding items can be submitted at time of acceptance. This will allow you to accept your offer and provide outstanding items online at the same time.

Full Offer

Once you have received your Full or Conditional – Proceed to Accept offer letter, please read through the letter carefully. When you are ready to accept the offer, follow the detailed instructions on how secure a place in your preferred diploma program at UTS College. You will need to accept our offer, and either pay your fees or apply for FEE-HELP (if eligible).

Offers can be accepted online via the Student Application Portal following instructions outlined in the offer letter and on our website Domestic student application Step 2:Accepting your offer.

You can opt to defer your fees via FEE-HELP. Applications for FEE-HELP are submitted online via estudent. Detailed instructions on how you can apply for FEE-HELP are outlined in the offer letter and our website Domestic student application Step 3: Applying for FEE-HELP.

If you opt not to defer your fees via FEE-HELP, you need to pay the first semester fees as outline in our offer letter. Refer to our payment options on our website. Proof of payment must be submitted at time of acceptance.

If you are under 18 years of age, the acceptance form needs to be signed by you and your parent/legal guarding and returned as outlined in the offer. You may still apply for FEE-HELP online.

Prepare for enrolment and Welcome Week

About two weeks prior to an intake, information will be emailed to you about how to get started with setting up various online accounts and platforms used throughout your study at UTS College, information about Welcome Week, upcoming enrolment and how to get involved with the UTS College student community.

Enrolment

Enrolments for all our diploma programs are completed online in designated enrolment sessions. Enrolments open one week prior to Welcome Week, and you’ll receive detailed information about what session to attend and how to select your timetable closer to the intake.

During the enrolment period, enrolment support sessions are open for all students that need assistance. If you need extra help, our enrolment team and IT team will be available during the workshops.

Attend your Welcome Week session

Welcome Week is an integral part of the diploma program to help you get set for a successful journey at UTS College.

Welcome Week is compulsory and covers all the important things you need to know and do before you start, such as what is expected from you and what you can expect from your program. Sessions include program-related presentations by your program manager, subject coordinators and teachers, introductions to the aims and objectives of all your subjects, social meetings to get to know your classmates and teachers, Study Success sessions and much more.

Deferment and withdrawal

Domestic students can defer or withdraw from their program up to the census date of their first semester study without incurring academic or financial penalty, or FEE-HELP debt. You must follow the correct process when requesting to withdraw to ensure that the withdrawal can be finalised by the census date. Deferral requests made after the first semester census date has passed are made on a case by case basis and in accordance with the Deferring and Cancelling Student Enrolment Policy.

Received an offer?

UTS College offers are non-binding. If you wish to change or defer the diploma, you don’t need to submit a new application. Simply submit your new preference via the Student Application Portal. A revised letter will be sent to you within two to three business days.

Depending on the circumstances we may re-assess your application. If you have any questions, our friendly staff are here to assist you.

If you wish to withdraw your application, you can decline our offer in a few simple steps via the Student Application Portal.

Defer or withdraw at acceptance

You can defer or change the diploma program already accepted by simply emailing us with the new course preference and intake date. A revised offer letter will be issued and sent to you within two to three business days. You will need to accept the revised offer and re-submit an online FEE-HELP application to finalise admission for the new program.

If you wish to decline after you’ve accepted your offer, let us know by email so that we can withdraw the
program. We’ll send you a confirmation once the withdrawal has been finalised.

After you’ve commenced the course, you must follow the correct process when requesting to withdraw to ensure that the withdrawal can be finalised by the census date. 

Fees and charges

Fees and charges vary depending on the course you are studying. Please visit our website to find our overall Diploma course fees and a more detailed Schedule of Fees. Your offer letter will have detailed fee information relating to your program.

Australian citizens, Humanitarian Permanent Resident visas holders and some New Zealand citizens may be eligible for FEE-HELP, an Australian Government loan scheme. You can find out more about FEE-HELP on the StudyAssist Government website and Frequently Asked Questions on our website. 

Recognition of prior learning

If you are seeking exemption from subjects at UTS College based on an equivalent level of study at a previous institution, you can apply at the same time as submitting your application for entry into UTS College.
Applications for exemptions with all necessary documentation can be made up until the end of week one of the first semester of study at UTS College. Additional information can also be found in our Recognition of Prior Learning Procedure. Please contact us for more information.

The UTS College Assessment Policy and Assessment Procedure outlines the principles on formal examinations, moderation, appeals against grades, special consideration and special needs. UTS College uses an assessment method that refers to pre-set criteria resulting in grades: High Distinction, Distinction, Credit, Pass, Fail.

Appeals and grievances

UTS College views student complaints as providing an opportunity to review and improve its policies and practices and to gain insight into student levels of satisfaction. Complaints can be forwarded to Complaint@utscollege.edu.au. UTS College regards student complaints as a confidential matter, however UTS College will usually not accept anonymous complaints. Procedural fairness will be observed in all aspects of handling a complaint. Where necessary, UTS College will provide an interpreter throughout the complaint handling process.

Our Student Complaints and Appeals Policy and Student Complaints and Appeals Procedure are designed to
ensure procedural fairness, facilitate a consistent handling of complaints and meet best practice standards of complaint handling.
