Academic and wellbeing help to keep you on track

Starting a new chapter can feel exciting, and sometimes a bit overwhelming. At UTS College, you don’t have to figure everything out on your own. Whether you’re adjusting to university-style learning, juggling life and study, or just need someone to talk to, support is always within reach.

What UTS College support means to our students

Why support matters

No one succeeds alone. Reaching out for support is a smart way to stay on track and make the most of your time at UTS College. Support, inspired by Lizzio’s Five Senses of Success research, is built into everything we do. That includes Learning.Connected, our model of learning, which is designed to help you feel capable, involved and ready to learn from day one.

Here’s how UTS College support fits into your study journey:

In-person support under one roof

The Student Commons in Building 5 is your go-to area for in-person support. It has the Student Centre (including Student Success Advisers), HELPS Centre and ITDS Helpdesk all in one central location: Block C.

Student Centre

This is the first building you see on your left as you walk into Block C from Quay St. Office hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You can drop by anytime during these hours to chat to our friendly Student Advisers. They can help you with course information, student ID cards, attendance and more. It's also where you can meet with a Student Success Adviser to chat about your study plans and course management.

HELPS Centre

Next door to the Student Centre is the HELPS Centre. HELPS stands for Higher Education Language and Presentation Support. Drop by anytime during office hours. There are lots of comfy areas to sit and read, get one-to-one support or join group workshops to sharpen your writing and presentation skills. Office hours are the same as Student Centre's: 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

ITDS Helpdesk

ITDS Helpdesk is on the other side of Block C, located near classrooms, study areas and breakout spaces. It's an ideal spot for when you need IT support asap. You can drop by the helpdesk, log a ticket on ITDS Service Desk Portal, call 7000 on the phones in each teaching room and print release stations, or call (+61 2) 9218 7000 if you're away from Building 5. Office hours are 8.30am to 7pm, Monday to Friday.

And don't forget your friendly teachers, peer mentors, peer helpers, welfare and accommodation support, UTS health and counselling service and so much more.

They're all committed to helping you make the most out of your studies and campus life - and feel supported, connected and confident every step of the way.

Say hello to our Student Centre heroes!

Make new friends from the beginning

Peer mentors

Peer mentors are experienced students who can help you settle in and feel confident during your first weeks. They know what it’s like to start something new and can share tips on study, college life and finding your way around. It’s a relaxed way to ask questions and feel connected from day one.

Peer help

Peer helpers are trained students who can guide you through study skills, tricky content or questions about your subjects. They can explain things in a way that makes sense and offer practical advice based on their own experience. It’s an easy way to get support from someone who has been in your shoes.

Your journey, supported every step of the way

In addition to in-person support on campus, you have 24/7 online access to study and wellbeing support. So anytime you have a question or feel like talking to someone - no matter where you are, or what time it is - we're here for you.

Get study help anytime, anywhere

There are heaps of study help resources available on your learning platform, Canvas. These are available 24/7.

On Canvas, you'll also have access to Studiosity, which provides 24/7 one-to-one online study help. You can access this through your Canvas account to get:

  • Writing feedback on your essays and assignments within minutes, or
  • One-to-one, personal help from a study specialist in real-time

24/7 mental health and wellbeing

Once you activate your UTS account, you'll have access to TalkCampus, a 24/7 online peer-to-peer wellbeing app. These advisers are not only trained professionals, they know what you're going through, because they're also students just like you. If you feel more comfortable talking to someone in your native language, you can choose from over 20 languages.
