You’re not too late. Why now is the perfect time to start studying (or change direction)

There’s a myth that if you don’t go to uni straight after Year 12, you’ve somehow missed the boat. But life doesn’t run on a schedule, and neither does your education.

Plenty of students take a gap year (or a few) to travel, work or figure things out. Others have studied elsewhere and soon realised it wasn’t the right place for them. Whatever your reason, if you’re thinking about study at UTS now, it’s the right time for you.

Tahlia felt the same way after high school.

“I thought, ‘I’ve done so badly, how can I ever get into medicine?’”

But she found another path through UTS College’s Diploma of Science. Now she’s studying a Bachelor of Advanced Science at UTS.

“I’ve learnt that where there’s a will, there’s a way… the HSC is not the be-all and end-all.”

Lewin, who also didn’t feel ready straight after school, took a gap year to work out what to do next.

“I felt like I wasn’t any good at academics and I didn’t know what I was going to do. But UTS College stuck their hand out and gave me an opportunity.”

Even Paniora (aka “Pnuks”), a former youth worker, now a confident student ambassador, wants to encourage as many young people as possible to never give up when it comes to further education:

“UTS and UTS College will give them the opportunity not just to learn new skills, but to be in spaces that will challenge them and inspire them to do more.”

The takeaway? It’s never too late. Whether you’re returning after one year or three (or you want to change direction), UTS College is here to help you take that next step – and feel confident doing it.
