Armando Kusuma was looking for good, solid foundation for his studies at UTS, where he plans to follow his father’s footsteps into a Bachelor of Business degree. "I chose UTS because my Dad went there and I thought, 'Why not?' He can teach me a thing or two,’"Armando says.
He didn’t let a disappointing ATAR stand in the way of his plans. "I didn’t do as well in the HSC as I would have liked, and UTS Insearch was a great opportunity to start with a clean slate. It’s really helped me grow as a person. I’ve worked really hard and now I’ve completed my Diploma of Business."
There was never any question that Armando would choose anything other than business. "I love everything about it," he says. "The way people talk, the way they interact. I don’t see study as a chore. It’s an opportunity. I want to start my own business and have my own company."
Studying at UTS Insearch has boosted Armando’s confidence, and he feels well prepared to enter second year of his Bachelor of Business degree.
He says, "To transition from high school to uni is really hard, and I saw this as the best choice. For me, it was better than going straight into uni life. It’s a smaller, more supportive environment, which I loved. It also has a diverse pool of people. You get to mingle and learn to communicate with people from all over the world. It was good to mingle with girls too. I came here from Cranbrook School, which was all boys."
Armando says one of the most important things he has learnt is to manage his time. "Now I always give myself some extra time just in case I need it. I call it my 'margin of error'. It’s like having time in your pocket. Coming early to class is important too, and keeping up-to-date notes. You learn a lot from UTS Insearch. It was really, really good for me."
