No. Your early UTS College application is independent of your UAC preferences. So if you get an early offer from UTS College, this won’t negatively affect your chances of receiving an offer from UTS.

There are no strings attached when you apply early to UTS College. It's just a stress-free way to save your place, just in case.

Domestic UTS College students are not assessed on ATAR. Instead, entry is based on your HSC subject average of English plus your best three board-developed subjects.

  • 75% for Accelerated
  • 67% for Standard

Entry to UTS College - subject average example:

Sam received the following marks for their HSC board-developed courses:

  • English Standard (65%)
  • Earth and Environmental Science (71%)
  • Mathematics Standard 2 (73%)
  • Music 1 (63%)
  • Japanese Beginners (68%)

Based on this ATARNotes calculator, Sam is predicted to receive an ATAR of 51.10.

Sam's UTS College subject average is calculated as English Standard (65%), plus their best 3 board-developed courses of Earth and Environmental Science (71%), Mathematics Standard 2 (73%) and Japanese Beginners (68%). Average
(65+71+73+68) / 4 = 69.25%.

While Sam's ATAR is 51.10, their UTS College subject average is 69.25%. Sam wants to study a Diploma of Science and can study a Standard 12-month diploma (min. 67% average).

Did you know 20% of first-year students in Australia drop out of uni each year^? That’s a pretty big proportion and there are lots of reasons for this: students might not feel uni is the right ‘fit’, it’s a struggle to keep their grades up, or their course just wasn’t what they expected or what they’re passionate about.

This is where UTS College helps. As an education pathway, UTS College helps prepare you for university study and build all the skills you need to succeed at UTS and beyond.

You’ll learn how to think and work independently, how to collaborate in groups, build your communication skills, improve your time management, and much more.

You’ll discover outside of high school in the ‘real world’ what you’re good at, what drives you, and what sort of career and study options interest you.

UTS College is also the pathway to UTS and the only pathway that guarantees* entry to UTS. We make sure you’re supported, set up and ready to take on the challenges of study at the uni of your dreams.

As the pathway to UTS, our diplomas are designed in collaboration with UTS and cover the same course material as first-year UTS students.

The main difference though, is support. When you’re studying at UTS College you get extra support to prepare you for university study and the transition to UTS.

Unlike first year uni, when you graduate from UTS College, you also receive a higher education diploma.

That’s why when you successfully complete a UTS College diploma, you’ll receive guaranteed entry* to your corresponding UTS degree.

No. If you successfully complete an accelerated or standard Diploma in Business, Communication, Design & Architecture, Engineering, IT or Science, you won’t need to start uni from the very beginning.

That’s because our programs cover the same course material as first year UTS so once you graduate from UTS College, you can put your diploma credits towards your degree. In fact most of our diplomas let you jump straight into 2nd year UTS** without any delay.

2023 Semester 2 intake starts on 13 June (Welcome Week). Classes start on 19 June 2023.

Domestic students are not assessed on ATAR. Entry is based on your HSC subject average which must include English and your top three non-VET subjects.

Below are the minimum HSC subject averages needed for our diplomas:

  • 75% for the Accelerated (eight month) diploma
  • 67% for the Standard (12 month) diploma

UTS College diplomas on offer include:

  • Accelerated (2 semesters or 8 months)
  • Standard (3 semesters or 12 months)

The diploma program you choose will be based on your HSC subject average and the pace of learning that suits you. For example, the eight-month accelerated program has a higher study load and therefore requires a higher HSC subject average for entry.

We offer premium higher education diplomas and as a private institution we don’t receive government funding.  We also limit are classes to less than 20 students, so students benefit from our personalised approach to learning.  The investment is $34,000 for an accelerated (8 month) or standard (12 month) diploma. The extended diploma (16 months) is $42,500.

Eligible Australian students can apply for FEE-HELP, which means you can study now and pay later.

FEE-HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme designed to assist eligible students in paying part or all their tuition fees. Australian citizens, holders of humanitarian permanent resident visas and some New Zealand citizens are eligible for FEE-HELP assistance.

During the application process you will be asked to submit a ‘Request for FEE-HELP’ form which will be assessed by our team. Instructions on how to complete the form will be provided to you in your offer letter.

If you’d like further information on FEE-HELP you can download the study assist FEE-HELP booklet.

When you complete your diploma, you will receive a Grade Point Average (GPA). Students who meet the minimum GPA for their desired course at UTS will receive a guaranteed place. And, depending on the course chosen, you may also be able to fast-track to second year at UTS. GPA requirements for each UTS degree can be found here.

Australian students can apply online, or if you’d like any help with your application you can call the UTS College team on free call 1800 896 994. Here is your How to Apply guide.

A domestic student is classified as either; an Australian citizen, an Australian Permanent Residents (PR) visa holder, an Australian Humanitarian visa holder or, a New Zealand citizen.

At UTS College, we offer a wide range of support to ensure you succeed with your goals. This includes access to our Study Success Advisers, Study Success Workshops, in-class peer support and mentoring.

We have Studiosity which is a service which provides anytime, anywhere student support, writing feedback within 24 hours, and a live chat help line.

UTS College students have free access to TalkCampus, a 24/7 peer support mental health and wellbeing app.

On campus or online, you’ll also enjoy access to a wide range of college activity and social clubs.

The main difference is support. UTS College is big on support, small in class size. Fewer students means you will receive personalised support from your teachers, feel more comfortable to participate in class and encouraged to collaborate with others.

By keeping our classes small in size and offering ongoing support both in-person and online, we can provide you with a more personalised and effective learning experience so you'll be set up for success at UTS and beyond.

Unlike first year uni, when you graduate from UTS College, you also receive a higher education diploma.

No - you won't be at a disadvantage. In fact, at UTS College you will study the same content as first year UTS students while having the advantage of more tailored support to help you with your first year of studies outside of high school. It's a great way to transition smoothly between high school and university.

As the pathway to UTS, we guarantee entry to UTS, with most diplomas fast-tracking you to the second year* of your UTS degree. So if you start Semester 1 and successfully complete a Standard (3 semesters, 12 months) or Accelerated (2 semesters, 8 months) diploma in the following course areas, you will start 2nd year UTS at the same time as other UTS students:

  • Business
  • Communication
  • Engineering
  • Information Technology (IT)
  • Science

If you study a Diploma of Design & Architecture, you will still need to complete some first-year UTS subjects when you progress to UTS, however your course load for your entire degree will be reduced compared to other UTS students. This is because the subjects you study in your UTS College diploma will be credited towards your degree as recognition of prior learning.

* For international students guaranteed entry to UTS is based on no more than two subject failures. For domestic students you must achieve the required Grade Point Average.
** Entry to second year of UTS depends on the course you choose. See individual course pages for details.
