Term 4 English program and refund policy update

Term 4 English program and refund policy update

Term 4 of our English language programs will be commencing 20 April. We recently moved our English programs from face-to-face to remote learning.  This provides our students with the opportunity to continue their education and stay on track, safely. To minimise the impact, we have the following activities and allowances underway:

Contacting admitted Term 4 students

UTS Insearch staff have contacted students admitted for Term 4 commencing 20 April. Staff have checked with students if they would like to enrol into the remote learning program or defer for a later intake date.

Continuing students travelling home

Students who deferred Term 3 and returned home can recommence their studies in Term 4 via remote learning from home. The student must pay fees to continue their studies.<

Students who need to repeat Term 4 (and Term 3)

Should a student who commences remote learning in Term 3 or 4 fail, providing they have 80% attendance they will be able to repeat in Term 4 or 5 respectively for free. This will not be available after Term 4 (students who fail Term 5 will not be able to repeat in Term 6 for free).

Students currently studying in Term 3, who fail to maintain satisfactory attendance will not be reported to Department of Home Affairs. If the student repeats the level due to failing, they will be able to repeat one term for free, however in Term 4, the attendance rule will be strictly followed.&

Students progressing to Semester 2

There will be an overlap of one week between Term 5: Academic English 4 program and commencement of Semester 2 Academic Programs on 22 June 2020. The overlap is permitted providing students attend the compulsory Orientation and Academic Preparation week activities from Wednesday 24 June (after completing their English exams on the Monday and Tuesday). This is to ensure students are engaged from the beginning even though their exam results are not released until the Thursday.

Refund policy for English lanuguage programs (Terms 3 & 4, 2020) - students impacted by COVID-19

  • An international student who was unable to arrive for Term 3 (or Term 4) due to travel restrictions and now wishes to withdraw rather than commence remote learning.
    •  Students are entitled to a full refund including the international student processing fee and UTS CoE fee.

  • An International student who wishes to be admitted for a future English (ELT) intake but is concerned that travel bans will prevent them from coming and that they may lose part of the fee if they then choose to withdraw close to the start of the semester.
    • Students are entitled to a full refund, including the international student processing fee and UTS CoE fee, provided a travel ban is still in place in their country of residence at the start of the term.

  • An international student who has started remote learning in Term 3 or 4 but after starting the program wishes to defer
    • The student can repeat the term without additional charge and no fail on record providing they have maintained 80% attendance. For those starting in Term 5, the normal rules apply.

  • An international student who has started remote learning in Term 3 or Term 4 but after starting the program they now wish to withdraw.
    • The student is entitled to a refund of the remaining terms’ fees. Their academic record will be unchanged. For those starting in Term 5, the normal rules apply.
