Mp>The Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie has been treating sick and injured Koalas since 1973, nursing them to health and releasing them into their home habitat wherever possible.
A lively ball of fluff
‘Twinkles’ was just a ball of fluff when she was brought into the hospital, clinging to the back of her injured mother after a traffic accident. Adopted by UTS Insearch, she was named for her bright, lively personality. The funds from Koala ‘adoptions’ help with rescue, treatment, and release of sick and injured koalas, along with the conservation of their habitat, and the collection of information for research.
Successful return to the wild
When she was old enough, Twinkles was released back into her home territory close to the hospital, where she continues to thrive. Her mother, Kaylee, who was too injured to survive on her own, remained in the care of the hospital, where she became quite a celebrity before passing away from old age.
Vital work continues
Since the recent bushfires, the hospital’s work is more important than ever as volunteers locate injured koalas and bring them in for treatment. The care and rehabilitation of our native animals is vital for the healing of our environment, and UTS Insearch is proud to participate in the hospital’s adoption program.
