Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) requirements

Personal electronic device guidelines
You’ll need personal electronic devices to enhance your learning, participate in class and study in your own time. This includes a laptop, headphones, smartphone, and battery pack (power bank). It’s your responsibility to keep your devices up-to-date and maintained.

Note: UTS College Service Desk can only support applications and services the College provides. Any of your own hardware and software such as laptops, mobile devices, operating systems and non-College apps are your responsibility to maintain and update.

Laptop

You need a laptop to complete your studies with us. Check the hardware and software requirements table to make sure your laptop meets the specifications for your course.

Smartphone

You need a compatible smartphone to access UTS College systems. Check the smartphone requirements table below to make sure your smartphone is set up correctly.

Battery life

We recommend you bring a battery pack (power bank) to ensure your laptop, headphones and phone are charged up at all times. There are also charging stations around campus but these are not available in classrooms.

Headphones

Headphones are required to limit noise. These can be wired or wireless. Wireless headphones should have a minimum 10 hours between charges.

Size and weight

Make sure your devices are a practical size and weight to carry around all day. We recommend a maximum weight of 2kg.

Wi-Fi

UTS College students can access free UTS College Wi-Fi while on campus.

Selecting the right devices for your course

You must have portable devices that meet the minimum requirements for your course and are compatible with UTS College’s systems. This includes a laptop, headphones, your mobile phone and battery pack (power bank). See the table below to check your laptop’s hardware and software requirements that best suit your course.
