You'll develop the English language and academic literacy skills required for successful entry to an English speaking university.

Our Academic English program develops your ability to participate confidently within the university community and sets you up for success in your university studies.

You'll enjoy learning with engaging content, guidance and feedback on assessments, real-world scenarios, and genuine personal communication.

The curriculum builds your independent learning, problem solving, team work, critical thinking, reasoning and analysis skills. It provides a balance of reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, weekly reviews and reflections on learning, opportunities to communicate in every lesson​, and built-in time management and study skills. 

Our English programs

Successful completion of Academic English for Foundation (AE3) allows direct entry* into UTS Foundation Studies and the UTS College Extended Diploma program (with entry requirements of IELTS 5.5).

Modes of study Academic English courses are delivered full time and face-to-face in timetabled classes on campus.
Assessment methods Information about specific assessment tasks can be found in the assessment briefs which are given to you in the first week of class. You are assessed on learning outcomes for each of the following skills: writing, reading, speaking and listening. Assessment includes most or all of the following elements: extended written assignments, group oral presentations, group discussions, reading and note-taking tasks, listening and note-taking tasks and final examinations. There is a standardisation process for marking and grading assessments to make sure that grading is consistent and fair. Please note, you must demonstrate that you have passed the learning outcomes for all four macro skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing), in order to pass the course.
General Students must be at least 16 years of age at commencement of the Academic English program.
Outcomes
Develop the confidence to interact in social situations and learn the skills you will need to succeed in UTS Foundation Studies and UTS College diploma programs.

Packaging programs

UTS College English courses can be packaged with UTS Foundation Studies and/or diploma courses as well as UTS degrees. You will only need to pay one international student processing fee. One of the advantages of packaged programs is that only one visa is required for the entire study period at UTS College and UTS. Where a package includes English, no further external English test will be necessary before beginning your next course at UTS College or UTS.
