Academic English programs
Welcome and Orientation is your introduction to your UTS College Academic English program.
It starts the Thursday afternoon before the first week of your first English block (you may hear the word "term" used as well) at the College. You’ll find out all the important things to know at the commencement of your program and set yourself up for success.
It’s important that you arrive before your classes commence or enrol for the next English program block.

Get Started
Welcome to the start of your Academic English Program.
It is compulsory for you to attend all the sessions on Orientation days. Please arrive on campus on time.
If you are not able to arrive in Sydney on time for your Orientation day, you must speak with your education agent or UTS College, who will advise you of your options.

Every student must bring with them to Orientation Day:

English language Windows laptop or Apple Macbook (NOT an iPad, Android tablet, or Chromebook) with the English version of Windows 10 or macOS Big Sur (11.0).

Note: Your laptop must have its operating system, Office 365 Suite and Google Chrome set to English.

- Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) Letter.
- Passport.
- Water bottle.

You must complete this step to access your learning platform, student email account, and start classes. Please download the document below and follow the instructions.
How to Activate UTS College Student AccountYou'll receive an email advising if your photo has been 'approved' or 'rejected'. After your photo has been approved, the Student Centre will notify when your ID card is ready for collection at the Student Centre (Building 5, Block C, Level 1).

Your Academic English "Welcome" module will give you all the information you need throughout your welcome, as well as a brief guide into life at UTS College.
This course will appear on your Canvas Dashboard, 1 week prior to your Orientation Week.
Once you have completed you Academic English Welcome Module, you are ready to attend your Welcome Days!
You can prepare yourself more by accessing your Student Handbook, which outlines your program and has all additional information you need to succeed at UTS College.

Your Welcome and Orientation is a great opportunity to prepare for success in your English language studies. English program-related presentations include:
- A welcome and introduction to UTS College from the Director of Studies, English.
- An overview of the Student Centre and examples of how your Student Adviser can help you.
- A presentation from the Student Success team, with essential information about welfare and accommodation services at UTS College.
- Introductions to Student Success Advisers and how they can support you in your studies.
- The team is also your main contact if you need help with any problems or issues.
- HELPS will introduce the learning support available to help you improve your English language skills.
- The College’s Operations and Facilities team will provide an overview of the UTS College campus and how you can make best use of the space.
- Student Clubs and Events will present about social activities available during your time at the College.
- IT (ITDS – Information Technology and Digital Services) presentation about technical issues and getting ready for your English language program.
During your Welcome session you’ll find out about specific support services at UTS College. These include the Student Success Advisers, HELPS and learning support, special needs, special consideration, wellbeing, UTS counselling and health services.
