Curriculum design

Learning style A traditional 20th Century mode of teaching and delivery of classes. This way of learning is outcomes-focused. We use digital tools and our classes are digitally designed, active and regularly reviewed, so that you learn in a way you prefer. We focus on developing your communication, collaboration and critical thinking skills as well as academic skills, while supporting your mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. 
Subject design Classes were designed for traditional face-to-face teaching, aligned to learning outcomes. Learning.Connected combines independent activities and exercises with live learning to prepare you for classes and help you reinforce what you've learned in between and after lessons. You'll have a consistent workload and authentic and relatable assignments. You'll receive plenty of guidance and support to assist you to understand subjects better. Classes have been designed based on best practice using a blended delivery of independent and live activities to keep you active and engaged. 
Graduate attributes Independent learners who are prepared for future study at UTS. Independent learners who are prepared for study at UTS and who have developed additional analytical, debating, collaboration and communication skills.  You'll be better prepared for life as well as your future career. With Learning.Connected you'll develop deep learning and subject knowledge.
Important traits A traditional combination of teacher and student-centred practice, with support largely independent of the curriculum. Review class content and better understand subject concepts before, during, and after class, while receiving high levels of support and interaction with your teachers. Support from teachers and our support services is built in to your program and focuses on your needs. Learning.Connected allows you to learn subject content in fun and creative ways. You'll learn in a style that suits you.
Course presentation Traditional ways of delivering classes, with a combination of lectures, tutorials and labs. Interactive pre-and-post class work, plus engaging face-to-face tutorials, pracs and labs. Many opportunities for discussions with teachers and peers, both in and out of class, and you'll be shown ways to improve your English skills.  Access a wide range of learning resources and content to develop your knowledge and understanding of your subjects. You're supported in and outside of class, and can ask questions, receive answers and review and revise your study materials at any time, in a variety of ways.

Learning activities On campus lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions and studios. You'll learn via forums, presentations, discussions,  tutorials, (lab)oratory and (prac)tical classes, and guided independent learning activities. Engage with teachers and peers during tutorials and lab/prac sessions, as well as during independent activities, and enjoy interactive learning in a wide variety of ways.
Learning resources Textbooks, presentations, reading materials, reports, videos, online materials. Videos, online quizzes, interactive simulations, presentations, reports, concept checks, digital reading materials, digital bulletin boards, podcasts, social media content, and textbooks. Access a wide range of online learning resources built into your course in Canvas, designed for Learning.Connected. Your program materials are more detailed and interactive to support your style of learning.
Live learning,
in-class experiences
Traditional delivery of classes, lectures, tutorials, studios and labs. Experience teacher and student-led discussions, concept checks, review of pre- and post-class work, presentations and relatable activities. This will deepen your understanding and improve your collaboration with peers and teachers. More opportunities to engage with your peers and teachers, enjoy live learning, develop strong connections, and participate in discussions, debates and collaborations to improve your experience.
Independent, out-of-class experiences Independent learning outside of the class with limited guidance on activities or input from teachers. Lots of engagement with simulations, podcasts, videos, online materials, pre-readings, recordings, quizzes, online peer discussions, assignments and research. Your activities are guided and consistently monitored by your teachers. Access a world of information within your course materials. You can learn subject concepts at your own pace, in a variety of ways, with support and input from your teachers.
Feedback Regular feedback provided to students on classwork, group work and assignments. Regular feedback and feedforward on pre- and post- class work, and your activities will be reviewed and monitored. You'll receive online feedback via discussion groups, reviewed assignments, and informal collaborations. You're well supported by your teachers and UTS College support services. You'll be given clear instructions, feedback and feedforward on your independent work, and you'll be supported and followed up on your progress to help you improve.

Academic support

Online academic support (Studiosity) Studiosity launched in 2021. This service was not previously available. Access Studiosity anytime anywhere numeracy, literacy and study support and assistance online, 24/7. Feedback on writing assignments within 24 hours, and immediate help with maths, science, English language and academic writing skills. 24/7 study support and tutoring online wherever you're located. You can also easily access our support services that can be booked in Canvas.
Teacher accessibility Teachers available in class time and on email outside of class time. Your subjects have been created to carefully guide you. Your teachers will engage with you outside of class time as well as provide guidance during class time. You'll have greater interaction and engagement with your teachers as part of your program. Teacher consultations can be easily booked in Canvas.
Peer mentors Peer mentoring in the Diploma Program for new students. Peer mentoring via the International Student Mentoring Program and In Class Peer Helper Program, and through TalkCampus, an online app providing you with peer support services, backed by psychologists. You'll have access to improved academic and mental health and wellness support via peer-to-peer support.
Student Success Advisers Student Success Advisers available on campus. Student Success Advisers available on campus and online at staggered times for improved access. Appointments are easily booked via Canvas. Receive counselling and practical support from our Student Success Advisers on both your academic and welfare needs to help improve your experience, performance and results. 
HELPS Centre HELPS Centre for English support available on campus. New HELPS online modules connected to assessments in Canvas. The HELPS Centre is located in UTS Building 5. HELPS services are closely connected to your academic program. Benefit from support for English language and presentation skills, referencing, academic writing and weekly resources that align with your coursework. Welfare and wellbeing support

Wellbeing support Wellbeing services offered to students independent of the curriculum. Access wellbeing practices within your subjects, including mindfulness exercises and Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment (SASH) education modules. You'll be supported and empowered to improve your wellbeing, with enhanced access to all our support services with bookings via Canvas. 
Early intervention Systems in place to monitor student progress and detect at-risk students. Your progress will be monitored and any issues picked up quickly. We use Canvas analytics to support your academic work and if you need it, we will provide early intervention and support. Improved early monitoring of your academic performance will lead to faster intervention and better outcomes for you. Early intervention and support is a vital part of Learning.Connected
Counselling and medical services Access to Student Success Advisers, UTS counselling and medical services. Access to Student Success Advisers, plus TalkCampus for peer support. Access to UTS medical and counselling services for domestic students via UTS Student Services and Medibank services for offshore students. You'll have improved access to health and wellbeing services in person, or online, in a format you prefer.
Social activities On-campus social activities. New online and on-campus social events and activities promoted through Canvas. Access to ActivateUTS, offering 130 clubs and societies, and hundreds of events each year. You'll enjoy many opportunities for social events and activities to improve your connections outside of class and socially.
Leadership and advocacy Student advisory group (SAG), volunteer programs and leadership programs. New opportunities to volunteer in leadership positions and learn leadership skills. New development programs are also available for SAG members and improved student representation on the Academic Board. Student's voices are amplified. You'll have improved opportunities to learn leadership and advocacy skills.
