Honest insights from parents and students

Choosing what to do after school can feel overwhelming for students and for parents. Many families tell us they want a pathway that’s supportive and provides a good transition to university. They want to know their child will be guided, encouraged and ready for university.

We’ve brought together a few stories, videos and moments that show what the journey is really like.

Three students, one shared direction

Tahlia, Stefania and Lewin each chose to study science, even if the path didn’t always feel clear at first. Their families hoped they would feel supported, confident, and prepared for university.

Stella’s perspective

Proud parent moment: watching Tahlia follow her dreams with confidence

Stella remembers how unsure Tahlia felt about her results and whether she should aim high. What mattered most was finding a place where she felt encouraged. As Stella says, "If the passion is there, they’ll find a way in … if you’re persistent, and you persevere, ultimately it leads to success one way or another." She adds that the smaller classes, supportive teachers and steady feedback helped her daughter believe in her own ability.

Maria’s perspective

Proud parent moment: Stefania finding her voice and a pathway to forensic science

Maria says her daughter Stefania found a learning environment where she didn’t feel lost. Stefania didn't get the ATAR she hoped for, but Maria watched her rebuild her confidence at UTS College. She moved towards the goal she'd always had. “She went to UTS College and worked her way up. They can do it, no matter what. If they really want it, they can,” she says.

Maria feels the Diploma of Science gave Stefania the confidence and clarity she needed to step into university feeling prepared.
