Two talented international students are the latest winners of the Medibank International Education Scholarship, which is awarded to the top performing student in the first stage of UTS Foundation Studies, and the highest performing student from the first stage of any UTS College diploma program in a single semester.

We congratulate Belinda Mandy Goh and Phoo Pwint Zin (Polly), our winners for Semester 2, 2025. Belinda, from Malaysia, achieved a GPA of 8.88 (out of a possible 10.00) in UTS Foundation Studies, and Polly, from Myanmar achieved a GPA of 6.60 (out of a possible 7.00) in the Diploma of Science. Polly also has the distinction of being a two-time winner, having also won the scholarship during her first stage of UTS Foundation Studies.

Belinda and Polly will each receive a A$4,000 contribution towards their UTS College tuition fees for the next semester. Both winners appreciate the difference this award will make as they continue their studies.

Belinda says, “This scholarship means I can focus on my studies and make the most of my learning experience.” Polly adds, “Winning the Medibank Scholarship has strengthened my self-esteem. I feel well-prepared to meet the challenges of my studies and to develop my potential.”

At UTS, Polly and Belinda have access to state of the art facilities on campus, like the Hive SuperLab.

Preparing for careers in healthcare
Coincidentally, both Polly and Belinda plan careers in the field of human health. Polly says, “I want to become a clinical psychologist and I intend to pursue a Bachelor of Psychology at UTS after completing my diploma. I believe it’s a profession that plays a critical role in shaping the future of healthcare, assisting people in managing their mental health issues. I aspire to be part of the team that ensures every individual is heard and seen for their needs.”

Belinda, who is interested in healthcare research and innovation, plans to study Medical Science. “Ever since I was young, science-related subjects have intrigued me,” she says. “I’m drawn to understanding diseases, exploring new treatments, and contributing to discoveries that can make a difference. Medical Science will allow me to combine my passion for science with my goal of helping others in a meaningful way.”

A campus rich in opportunities
Belinda says that, after researching her options, UTS College was an easy choice for her. “It wasn’t just because of its exceptional campuses, although I love where the College is located, the environment, and the sense of belonging. But the strong academic reputation and high-quality education were also important to me,” she says.

For Polly, the many extracurricular opportunities for personal and professional development have enriched campus life. “I’ve gained valuable experiences through active volunteering at UTS College events,” she says.

“Currently, I’m Event Director with the Student Representative Group. I also volunteer as an in-class peer helper, and a peer mentor. These experiences are helping me discover who I am and what kind of life I want. They’re shaping a better understanding of myself and the world around me. Also, volunteering with RNA (Respect. Now. Always.) at UTS – an initiative dedicated to preventing gender-based violence – provides me with insight into treatment strategies, and the realities of mental health care.”

International students who have arranged their Medibank Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) through UTS College are eligible for the Medibank International Education Scholarship. They must be currently enrolled at UTS College in either UTS Foundation Studies or a UTS College diploma course. In addition to excellent academic performance, students must maintain excellent attendance and have undertaken a full study load. There is no need to apply as candidates will be nominated by UTS College staff.
