Supporting future leaders through targeted education
Transformative education does more than change individual lives. It strengthens communities, drives innovation and empowers nations to create meaningful change.
That vision was at the centre of a visit from an Uzbekistan delegation to UTS College on 1 September, where discussions focused on creating opportunities for talented scholarship students to study in Australia, gain industry-relevant skills and return home ready to contribute to Uzbekistan's growth and development.
Student success at the centre
One of the strongest themes to emerge throughout the day's conversations was the delegation's focus on student welfare and outcomes. Representatives emphasised the importance of strong partnerships that provide students with clear guidance, personalised support, and a seamless study journey, ensuring they are well supported from enrolment through to graduation.
The delegation spoke about the responsibility that comes with supporting scholarship students. These students are not only recipients of funding, but are seen as future professionals, leaders and contributors to Uzbekistan's economic and social development.
The delegation also acknowledged that studying abroad can be both exciting and challenging. Students often needing support as they adapt to a new country, culture and education system.
UTS College shared how it supports students throughout that journey. Small class sizes, close academic monitoring, Peer Mentor & Peer Helper programs, and a wide range of student activities help students feel welcome, supported and connected during their studies.
Developing global skills for local impact
Central to the partnership is a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UTS College and the El-Yurt Umidi Foundation, creating a structured pathway for Foundation-sponsored students to access international education and progress to a UTS degree. The agreement outlines collaboration across student sponsorship, campus familiarisation programs, academic pathway advice, application support, and joint educational and capacity-building initiatives.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to developing highly skilled graduates who can help address future workforce needs in Uzbekistan. Through their studies in Australia, students will gain internationally recognised qualifications, practical industry knowledge and cross-cultural experience across fields such as STEM, agriculture, education and healthcare.
As the first Australian education institution to establish this scholarship pathway with the delegation, UTS College is proud to contribute to the development of future leaders and professionals who will return home equipped to drive innovation and positive change in their communities.
