Staying safe during bushfire season

Please note - the UTS Insearch campus is located in Sydney’s Central Business District - it is not located near bushland.

You may be aware that Australia is experiencing serious bushfires, including in parts of NSW. This week a state of emergency was declared in some areas to allow Fire Services to access more resources for firefighting and preparation.

If you are in a bushfire area, several actions are recommended by the Fire Services to maximise safety:

  • Stay informed of updates from the Rural Fire Service via the media or access updates on the RFS website.
  • Download the RFS app (Fires near me)
  • People who live in high-risk bushfire areas may need to prepare their homes
  • If you are unable to leave your home in a bushfire emergency, identify a safe location nearby - this may include a Neighbourhood Safer Place
  • If there is an approaching bushfire or you are at risk, call 000 immediately.

If any UTS Insearch student is concerned, needs more information or support, please contact the Student Centre on  9218 8666.
