Since first visiting Australia on a family holiday, Maria Margarita Maldonado’s dream was to travel from her home in Colombia to study there. She saw a future for herself working for a multinational company, so when her uncle invited her to live with his family in Sydney she took the opportunity to study a Bachelor of Business at UTS, majoring in marketing and finance. Like many international students, she began by enrolling at UTS College, the pathway to UTS, mainly to improve her academic English skills.
After completing her degree, Maria began her career at a digital marketing agency. She then joined Microsoft, working as a campaign manager with prestigious clients like Clinique, Coca Cola, Paramount Pictures, and American Express. Next, Maria gained essential business-to-business marketing experience with a multinational office-sharing company, before returning to Colombia.
Her valuable international experience, especially in Australia’s highly developed digital marketing environment, put Maria at the head of the line when Facebook was looking for a marketing manager for its operations in Colombia and Peru. Of her work, developing strategies to educate businesses about the platform, Maria says, “I love waking up and knowing that I work in a company with a mission to bring the world closer together.”
