Aye Chan Oo: scholarship recipient and future medical researcher from Myanmar

Aye Chan Oo, a UTS College student from Myanmar, has much to be proud of. She is a recent winner of the Medibank International Education Scholarship for achieving a GPA of 7 in her first semester of a Diploma of Science (Life Sciences) at UTS College. But Aye has also achieved a ‘Certificate of Excellence’ from Pearson’s Learner for high marks in IGCSE subjects, and became the youngest teacher at a British International School during her gap year.

Outstanding facilities attracted Aye to UTS

With plans to study a medical science degree, Aye was attracted to the outstanding facilities at UTS, in particular, the Super Lab with bin the UTS Science building.

“I am friends with UTS alumni, and they have said a lot of great things about school’s advanced teaching, as well as its excellent location,” she says.

“I love working in science field and I want to research diseases to find the cures. I think it is very interesting how science and technology are working together to improve the qualities of our lives.”

Aye is inspired by her family

Aye says she is inspired by her mother, who has been her role model. “My mom inspires me to try hard and teaches me to become independent so that I can make correct decisions in life.”

She has also been inspired and motivated by her recent scholarship to try even harder in the future.

“I feel appreciated for my hard work,” says Aye. “I will continue to work towards my goals, even though it is tough during this pandemic. I am grateful to be receiving this kind of support from the school.”
