Top 5 student discounts
One of the best parts about being a student is the access to student discounts. From gym memberships to coffee to electronics to going out, here are Engineering student, Dan’s top five ways to cash in on some student discounts as a UTS College or UTS student.
UTS Restaurants and Retail
You can score a bunch of discounts right here on campus. Cafes like The Terrace, Cornerstone Café and Penny Lane offer special prices to UTS and UTS College students. The UTS Store sells a variety of UTS merchandise like UTS hoodies, jackets, stationery, and offers 10% off on any item in the store to students. UTS even has a gym that offers special prices for students with six month memberships starting from $299. All these discounts can be redeemed by showing your student ID when purchasing.
Bouldering at 9 Degrees
One of Dan’s favourite past times is bouldering and there’s a student discount for that. 9 Degrees started in 2015 and have expanded to four locations across Sydney. They are home to thousands of boulderers and offer a range of climbs for every skill level. They offer 9% off for students and this can be claimed by showing them your student ID card. Dan goes to the Alexandria location but the student discount is valid for all the locations.
Electronics
If you’re in the market for a new laptop or phone, you’ll be happy to hear that a lot of major companies like Samsung and Apple offer student discounts. Depending on the product and offer at the time, you can score up to 20% off or there might be a deal where they give you a free accessory with your purchase. Even Microsoft offers a wide range of student offers on Microsoft laptops, Xbox, and other services.
Spotify Premium
If you love listening to music, you can score a student discount on Spotify. Students above 18 are eligible to get student rates on a subscription that is $5.99 per month whereas a normal plan would cost $11.99. To score this discount, you can simply upload a photo of your student ID card during the purchase and after verification, you can get Spotify Premium at a student rate. Winning!
Cinemas
Looking for something to do after class? Head to the movies with your student discount. There are three major cinemas in Sydney: Event Cinemas, Hoyts, and Palace Cinemas. Event Cinemas have student tickets from $8, Hoyts have student tickets from $12.50, and Palace Cinemas have student tickets from $9. Considering an average adult movie ticket is $25 these days, that’s a pretty sweet deal.
And if that wasn’t enough for you, you can check out UNiDAYS for more student discounts across electronics, fashion, travel and more. Happy shopping!
