Academic Communication

ACCO001

This subject will help you develop a broad range of skills necessary to succeed in your academic studies. Develop performance and critical/creative thinking skills to be confident using your body and voice. This will enable you to deliver successful presentations and take part self-assuredly in any academic speaking contexts.

Writing tasks also build an understanding of structure and language that enhance essay writing. You will learn how to work as a group, set goals understanding text, build empathy, express an opinion, and engage an audience. You will also develop interpersonal, oral and written communication skills through workshop activities.

Use your own experiences to develop stories and a performance that utilises the principles and techniques of drama. You are encouraged to reflect on the practical relationship these skills have to your academic and professional life.

Discover the principles and techniques of effective storytelling, using research skills and identifying how different media can combine to engage an audience. You will learn to write and perform your stories in a practical setting, explore ways to represent these stories digitally and understand the importance of storytelling in your personal life, study and professional practice.

In Academic Communication, you will also develop and employ important ‘soft skills’ that will benefit you now and in the future. This includes building your skills in adaptability, resourcefulness, initiative, creativity, interpersonal communication and the ability to problem solve and to work well in teams.
