This is an exciting time and there is so much important information to digest. To make it easy for you, we have put together vital information such as what to do before you enrol, when to enrol, how to enrol and where to get help with enrolment.

Before you enrol

The first thing to do before you enrol is to either pay your tuition fees, or submit one of these documents:

  • ‘Request for FEE-HELP Assistance’ form (domestic students only)
  • Formal scholarship letter confirming the payment of fees issued by a Cultural Mission or relevant government body, or 
  • Financial guarantee confirming your scholarship, issued by a Cultural Mission or relevant government body.

Activate your email accounts

If you are enrolling for the first time, you will need to activate your UTS email account here. Once activated check it regularly as any emails sent by UTS College will only be to your UTS email account.

When to enrol

Enrolling for the first time

All new students need to enrol by the Friday of Welcome Week. You will be sent a link to your online timetable after you complete the registration steps during Welcome Week.

If you haven’t enrolled by the cut-off dates and are:

  • a domestic student (Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident visa holders or New Zealand citizen) – you will need to defer your studies for a semester
  • an international student – you will be reported to the Department of Home Affairs as your visa requires you to enrol by the deadline. 


If you are a diploma student, you can start re-enrolling on the Tuesday of Welcome Week and complete re-enrolment by the Friday of Welcome Week. You can re-enrol on eStudent.

If you are a re-enrolling UTS Foundation Studies students you can enrol into your subjects including elective subjects  and create class timetable on eStudent.

Finally, if you’re changing programs, for example moving from an English program to academic studies, you can start enrolling on the Tuesday of Welcome Week and complete re-enrolment by the Friday of Welcome Week.

Subject outlines and choices

The subjects available for each program are summarised in the Student Handbook.

Minimum and maximum study load

A study load is the number of subjects you study for a particular stage of your program.

International students, are required by the Department of Home Affairs to undertake a full-time study load. If you are a UTS Foundation Studies student, you are also required to undertake a full-time study load. The study load for each program is detailed in the Student Handbook. If you need to repeat a subject from Stage 1 of your program, you may not be able to take all subjects of Stage 2 as this would be more than a full-time study load. See your Study Success Adviser for advice.

Domestic students may enrol in the part-time option as long as you can complete your program in the timeframe outlined in the Academic Program Progression and Completion Policy.

As a general rule, you may not enrol in more than the required number of subjects for the stage of your program, as detailed in the Student Handbook. However, you may exceed the number of subjects if you are in the last stage of study and only need one subject to complete your diploma. You will need approval from your Study Success Adviser. Apply by contacting the Student Centre at no later than Monday of Week 1.


You are not allowed to enrol in a subject without first successfully completing the pre-requisite(s). In some circumstances, you may be allowed to enrol with the permission of the Program Manager.

How to apply for exemptions/RPL

If you have completed equivalent study at another institution, you may be eligible for exemptions from subjects. To find out more or to apply, contact the Student Centre at You will need to provide evidence of your prior learning.  Please apply for exemptions no later than Friday of Week 1.

As you start to settle in to student life at UTS College, you should get into the habit of checking your class timetable on eStudent. UTS College may make changes to your timetable, especially during the first three weeks of the semester, so it’s a good idea to also keep an eye on your UTS email account for any important updates.

Last date to change your classes

If you need to change a class time, you can do this on Thursday of Welcome Week. You will need a compassionate or serious reason to change. Download the Academic Timetable Change Request Form, ensuring you read the terms and conditions. Email the complete form with all supporting documents to

Examples of supporting documents include a letter from your employer for a work-related change, or a letter from a doctor regarding a health issue. Your application to change your timetable will not be accepted if your form is incomplete and/or you do not provide supporting documents. The Enrolment Team will advise you of the outcome via your student email within two business days.
