UTS College launches new subsidised short courses to upskill, or kick start your path to university

The challenges of the last two years have affected all our lives. Those in industries that have seen downturns due to COVID may have lost jobs or had working hours reduced. Ongoing lockdowns have given people time to reassess their priorities. The continuing ups and downs are prompting many people to consider a change of career. It’s not surprising that a large cohort of school-leavers who completed Year-12 more than two years ago is still looking for a way forward. The good news is that those looking to upskill for their next career move, or prepare to return to study, have an exciting new option.

With an undergraduate certificate, the choice is yours
UTS College is introducing a range of Undergraduate Certificates. These courses offer a taste of university education to students anywhere in Australia. They’re a great way to get started while considering a more ongoing commitment. A completed Undergraduate Certificate can serve as a stand-alone qualification or a pathway to further study. Students who complete their course will also gain 24 credit points towards a related UTS College Diploma – the pathway to a UTS degree.

Accelerate your way to a new career
In just 12 weeks an Undergraduate Certificate delivers the foundational knowledge in your chosen subject area. It’s an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge to take the next step in your current job or a foundation to prepare for a new career. Delivered 100% Live Online, students will have access to the extensive online support services at UTS College. In addition to the College’s highly qualified teachers and Academic Coordinators, there is help from our team of Study Success Advisers who can guide you throughout your course and support you to reach your study goals. Students also have free to access Studiosity for online literacy, numeracy and study help 24/7.

Choose from four in-demand subject areas
The current Undergraduate Certificate courses cover four in-demand subject areas:

Undergraduate Certificate in Design Practice
This lays the foundation for a career or further study in design or architecture. Students learn to turn their ideas into designs and develop design thinking.

This lays the foundation for a career or further study in communications and media. Students develop an understanding of contemporary media and gain digital media skills.

Undergraduate Certificate in Information Technology
This lays the foundation for a career or further study in IT. Students learn to script, build web pages, and develop simple software systems.

Undergraduate Certificate in Business Essentials

A great opportunity to upskill
Tim Lawrence, Dean of Studies at UTS College is enthusiastic about the new opportunities presented by these certificate courses. He says, “The new Undergraduate Certificates reflect the College’s commitment to helping all students to reach their potential. On completion of their certificate, students will have made a great start towards the next step in their career or towards further study. This is a great opportunity to upskill during challenging times.”

To be eligible, applicants need at least one year’s work experience and will have completed their HSC (or equivalent) more than two years ago. Under the Australian Government’s Job-ready Graduates package, part of the course fees for these certificates is government funded. This means students can take advantage of reduced fees and HECS-HELP (if they are eligible). This opportunity is only available for the 27 September intake and places are strictly limited.  Find out more about the opportunity here.
